West Point Golf Club has lost a proud member, Geof Trunkfield, following a recently diagnosed battle with lung cancer. Geof was a private and compassionate individual who joined WPGC in 2004 and offered his services to the members working at the Captain’s Table for two years before becoming the Vice Captain - Scoring in 2013-2014. He did an excellent job and also coordinated several competitions. It was a pleasure being in a foursome with Geof as he always had an encouraging word for each golfer in his group.
Geof enjoyed a very successful career with the Vancouver School Board as a teacher, counsellor and vice principal. He was a friendly, caring, student-focused counsellor, always committed to what was best for the student. Geof and Wayne Gatley worked together at David Thompson in the mid-1990s and both served on the executive of the Secondary Administrators’ association for several years.
During his university summers, Geof worked in the forestry industry and that included lots of hiking, which ultimately led to really strong calf muscles – something you may have noticed on the golf course as he toted his bag.
Geof leaves behind his partner of many years, Suzanne, along with nieces and a nephew. Another gentleman lost to us at the age of 80 – and will be missed by many friends. |
